27 November 2019 turned out to be a horrifying night in the life of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor of Hyderabad. The news of brutal gang rape and murder was all over the news channels and newspapers. Just like Delhi’s Nirbhaya rape case, people were expecting that this case will also take years to punish the accused, but within 10 days of the Hyderabad vet incident, the four accused were encountered on 6 December 2019.
The Man Behind the Encounter
The whole credit of this encounter goes to the Cyberabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, who became a national hero just after he led a team that encountered the accused in the rape case. Sajjanar became the talk of the nation after all the four accused- Mohammad Ali alias Mohammad Arif, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen Kumar, and Chintakunta Chenna Keshavulu were encountered.
An Encounter of the Rapists
On 6 December 2019, Cyberabad police and the four accused went to the murder site to recreate the whole incident. Reportedly, they reached the murder site at around 3 am. The accused started stoning cops and tried to flee from the location. The police gave them several warnings to surrender, but the accused tried to run away. In the end, the accused were killed in an encounter by a team led by V. C. Sajjanar and team in an open fire on National Highway 4 near Hyderabad, the same place where victim’s body was found half burnt.

Victim’s father thanked Telangana Police, especially Mr V. C. Sajjanar for punishing the accused. He was thankful to God that humanity is still alive. In an interview, he said,
It has been 10 days since the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police and government for this. My daughter’s soul must be at peace now.â€
A Glimpse into His Personal Life
V. C. Sajjanar was born on Thursday, 24 October 1968 (age 51 years; as in 2019), in Pagadi Oni, Hubbali in Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. His father, C B Sajjanar, was a tax consultant and a social activist. He completed his primary and high school education from Lions School, Hubbali. Later, he studied commerce at JG College of Commerce and completed his MBA from Kausali Institute in Management studies of Karnatak University. He is married to Anupa Sajjanar.

Who is V. C. Sajjanar?
He is an IPS officer of the 1996 Batch. He started his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police of Jangaon (Warangal District) in Telangana. Later, he served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Special Intelligence Branch) and the Inspector General of Police (Special Intelligence Branch). Earlier, he was posted at OCTOPUS and the Economic Offences Wing (CID) as Superintendent of Police. Thereafter, he was posted at Intelligence Wing, Sajjanar. In March 2018, he was appointed as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner.

Real-Life Hero
The real example of fictional characters of good Police officers in movies is Sajjanar. He is one of the most disciplined police officers in India. After being appointed as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, in March 2018, he took many initiatives to reduce the crime rate in the state. He has worked for the development of the IT sector by organising various national and international events. He has been working for the issues pertaining to the safety of women and children, the security of IT, road safety, and traffic issues, all these years. In December 2008, he had led a similar encounter of the accused in an acid attack case in Warangal District of Telangana.

Obliterating the Maoist Activities in Telangana
Sajjanar played an important role in obliterating the Maoist activities in Telangana. While he was appointed as the Inspector General of Police (Special Intelligence Branch), Sajjanar with his team made counter-strategies to completely stop the Maoist activities in the newly formed state, Telangana. The Director-General of Police, M Mahender Reddy, said that under the supervision of V. C. Sajjanar there was no presence of or movement of Maoists.

Encounter Man of India-Â V. C. Sajjanar
Mr V. C. Sajjanar has earned the name ‘Encounter Man’ or ‘Encounter Specialist’ for his approach to curb the crime. Two of his encounters are ‘The Hyderabad Vet Rape Case, 2019’ and ‘Acid Attack Case, 2008.’ In 2008, Sajjanar was serving as Superintendent of Police of Warangal District in Telangana. In the same year, three youths threw acid on two girls, Swapnika and Pranitha. The girls were the students of engineering at the Kakatiya Institute of Technology in Warangal. It was a case of one-sided love, Swapnika had rejected the proposal of Srinivas and in the rage, Srinivas with his two other friends carried out this acid attack. In this heartbreaking incident, Swapnika died on the spot and the other girl, Pranitha after a prolonged treatment was recovered. After the three accused confessed their crime, they were taken to the crime spot to recreate the whole incident by V. C. Sajjanar and his team. The accused tried to flee and revolt against the police and in defence, the three accused were encountered.
