His father, who runs a construction company in the United Kindom, was once the president of the largest Gurdwara in the UK, namely Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar which is in Gravesend.
Dhesi’s mother was arrested back in 2012 in India for her involvement in a kidnap and forced abortion case of a 19-year-old girl named Harpreet Kaur, who was carrying a foetus ageing four and a half months.
He is the chair of Gravesham constituency in Kent and has also held the post of Mayor of Gravesham. He was defeated in the general elections of 2005 from the constituency.
In the 2017 general elections, he was elected as Britain’s first turbaned Member of Parliament from Slough constituency. He secured 34,000 votes, almost double the number of what his closest competitor managed to get.
