Gabor was born in Budapest, Hungary to a soldier father named Vilmos Gabor. The family, however, immigrated to the United States in 1944 because of the Nazi invasion.
Gabor started her career as a singer. After attending a Swiss boarding school, the 17-year-old ended up in Vienna, where tenor Richard Tauber invited her to sing the soubrette role in the operetta The Singing Dream.
She was crowned Miss Hungary in 1936.
Her first husband, Turkish Diplomat Burhan Asaf Belge, helped her immigrate to the United States by the time World War II enveloped Europe.
Her 3rd husband, George Sanders, who divorced Gabor in 1954, married her elder sister in 1970, however, the marriage was soon annulled.
Gabor has acted in a number of movies and TV shows; We’re Not Married! (1952), Moulin Rouge (1952), Lili (1953), and The Man who Wouldn’t Talk (1958) are some of her popular movies.
Despite many relationships, Gabor had only a single biological child. In her autobiography, One Lifetime Is Not Enough, she claimed that her second husband, Conrad, forced her to have sex during their separation and that even her only child Francesca was a product of rape.
